Who this is for

This page is for people experiencing insomnia symptoms or persistent sleep disruption that is distressing or affecting daytime function.

This may include difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, waking too early, non-restorative sleep, fear of not sleeping, or sleep problems linked with anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, perimenopause, menopause or physical health concerns.

What drug and alcohol-related difficulties can look like

Insomnia and sleep problems vary from person to person. They may include:

  • Difficulty sleeping: difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, waking too early, or spending long periods awake overnight.

  • Non-restorative sleep: waking unrefreshed, feeling fatigued, irritable, low in mood or unable to concentrate during the day.

  • Anxiety at night: racing thoughts, fear of not sleeping, panic symptoms or feeling tense around bedtime.

  • Sleep problems with life-stage changes: sleep disruption during perimenopause, menopause, pregnancy, postpartum, parenting demands or shift work.

  • Sleep problems with health conditions: pain, sleep apnoea, physical health concerns, medications or other medical contributors.

  • Daytime functioning difficulties: reduced concentration, lower productivity, emotional dysregulation or reduced capacity to manage daily demands.

  • Reliance on sleep aids: alcohol, sedatives, over-the-counter sleep aids or other strategies that may become difficult to change.

How Sabrina’s approach helps

Sabrina’s approach is thorough, calm and collaborative. Longer appointments allow time to understand sleep routines, triggers, mental health, physical health, medications, hormonal or life-stage factors, pain, substance use and daytime functioning.

The aim is to identify likely contributing factors and develop a structured insomnia treatment plan. This may include sleep and routine strategies, a Mental Health Care Plan when appropriate, medication review within scope, planning investigations where relevant, referral pathways when indicated, and follow-up planning.

For health professionals

Sabrina may be helpful to involve when insomnia is persistent, distressing, functionally impairing, complex or occurring alongside anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, PND or perimenopausal symptoms.

Referral may also be appropriate where there is medication complexity, dependence concern, diagnostic uncertainty, suspected sleep apnoea or need for a coordinated approach.

Examples of referral considerations include:

  • Persistent insomnia with significant distress or functional impairment

  • Sleep issues with comorbid anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, PND or perimenopausal symptoms

  • Medication complexity, dependence concerns, or need for careful review within scope

  • Diagnostic uncertainty or complexity requiring a coordinated approach

  • Need for investigation or referral, including possible sleep physician review where indicated
